The Queen! The new Queen! Empty
PostSubject: The Queen! The new Queen!   The Queen! The new Queen! EmptyTue Jan 06, 2009 11:55 am

Marie-Therese was in the coach and leaned with her head against the window. It was cold, very cold, but that was normal in this time of the year. She liked winter actually, the snow always let the world look surreal. She could see some hills, which were all white. The world looked peaceful and quiet, almost like it was silenced by a higher force. Except from her group, there were no others at the road, who was dirty by consequence of the snow that merged with dirt. Sometimes the coach even got stuck, because of the holes that were created by the vehicles that ride there.

She looked at the riders who escorted the coach. There were a lot of them, naturally, she was the new Queen. After a lot of struggling, the most of the nobles supported her. They were sick of the weak king, who had caused lots of problems in the kingdom of England. The civilians weren’t content anymore and started to revolt. Eventually they dethroned the weak king. For a short time England was without a government, except from some earls and dukes who tried to restore the peace, luck and above all a strong monarchy in England.
The leader of those nobles was Thomas Howard, duke of Norfolk, the father of Marie-Thérèse. He was a descendant of one of the earlier Kings of England, Edward the first. The Howards had produced several Queens. Anne Boleyn, God has her soul, who married King Henry VIII, was the daughter of a Howard, the sister of the Duke of Norfolk. Every one knows that she gave birth to the strong and respected Queen Elisabeth.
Thomas Howard, the father of Marie-Thérèse managed to tempt the nobles of England, so that they were almost all at his side. With their support, he had claimed the throne for his only child, a girl named Marie-Thérèse, the same girl as the one in the coach.

Of course there were people who didn’t agree, and they existed still. Apart from the support she had, there was also resistance. The former royals of Scotland, the house of Stuart, had tried to claim the throne also. They remained a threat, but they were always been a threat for the throne of England. But now there was a new house, the house of Howard, that sat on the English throne. Marie-Thérèse the first of England, that’s how they called her now.

She knew that her father had only did this to have might for himself, and she was sure that he’d try to influence her. Luckily Marie-Thérèse wasn’t as naive as every one seemed to think. She had inherited the strong character of her father, but also the generosity and wisdom of her mother, who died by a horrible decease. Marie wasn’t planning to let any one influence her at all. She was the Queen, so she had to be obeyed. There were already things forming in her head, how she would change England, which people she could trust and because of that appoint to govern the kingdom, even plans to remove those irritating Scottish royals.

She had studied a lot, read lots of books about the history of England, the great kings, the weaker ones, the wars, etc. She hoped that those things could help her with governing England, actually she was sure of that. You could learn much from the past, although there were lots of people who didn’t knew that. They say that the past was the past, and that you should only live for the future. Nothing was less true in the eyes of Marie-Thérèse. Mistakes made in the past taught you that you shouldn’t make the same mistake again. Declining the past would be the same as declining essential knowledge.

In one short moment, she returned to the present. The environment hadn't changed much, but the roads were cleaner and she saw even some other travellers, who were of course all interested in the coach, that carried the coat of arms of England. She could already imagine what was going on in their heads: “Who is that? Is that the new Queen? Ow dear, it will be interesting to see how long she lasts!”. She smiled, she would last long! She would restore the former might of England. People in other kingdoms would know her name, and she would be “Marie-Thérèse, the Greatest monarch ever seen!”.

While thinking all of this, one of her guards knocked on the window and nodded to her. Apparently they were already close to Whitehall, where her new palace was…

The Queen! The new Queen! Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Queen! The new Queen!   The Queen! The new Queen! EmptyTue Jan 06, 2009 1:42 pm

Piero, since his arrival in England, didn’t have the opportunity to be alone for a moment. He now knew why James wanted him to return, after nearly a decade travelling and studying in the Continent, mainly France, Spain and Portugal. His brother, James Stewart, 1st Duke of Richmond was in his deathbed, due to a strange decease the doctors could not identify. Piero believed in poisoning, as his elder brother made many enemies by being a key royalist. And both stood in exile together, although James returned to England after 5 months, to fight for the King.

The time spent in the Continent had made Piero forget how Whitehall was, but once he arrived, he could remember clearly the time spent in the Courts, the balls, although he was a child back then.

Now, he had been instructed by his brother to, on his behalf, escort the new Queen in the Palace. If it was not him first, surely another would come. And he had just heard about how the Howards had finally succeeded in making a Queen… although he didn’t know exactly what happened to Cromwell. Apparently, he had been murdered, but Piero didn’t know exactly.

He walked from a side to the other, outside the Palace. Now, he wore his red uniform, the same which had been adopted by the Parliament for the soldiers and which apparently would be used by the Army. Piero tried to think on how to greet the Queen… and to his surprise, he saw a coach with the Royal Coat of Arms coming.

He stood respectfully outside the way of the coach, and once it finally stopped, after crossing the gates, in the beautiful garden, he went towards it.

Piero went there and once he saw the Queen he was surprised to see her, what a beautiful Queen! But it would be impolite to stare at her, without saying a word. He inclined his head and kneed before her.

Your Royal Majesty, welcome to your new Palace. , said him, polite, and then he rose to his feet. I’m Sir Piero Stewart, and I came on behalf of my brother, His Grace James, Duke of Richmond, to welcome you, as he is unable due to his health. I hope Your Majesty had a pleasant travel coming to Whitehall… would you like me to escort Your Majesty to the Royal Chamber?

Marie-Thérèse took the hand of her new lady-in-waiting when the palace came in sight. It truly was beautiful, even more beautiful that she had imagined. She had heard tales about it, stories of her father and other nobles who had visited her. She looked at the gardens and the lands around it that were all under a thin layer of snow, they looked picturesque. She imagined how they would look like in spring and summer, full of flower, colours…

As they came closer to the palace, Marie-Thérèse became more and more nervous. Who’d be there? Nobles that would try to test her? See if she was fit and how far they could manipulate her? She breathed deeply and closed her eyes. She had to make a calm impression and try to impress them. She took her warm red coat and putted it on. When the coach stopped, she was ready.

The little door of the coach opened and a hand appeared to help her out. She took the hands and came out. The snow cracked when she planted her feet on the snow and she immediately felt the cold of the winter. It was strange, all those people looking at her and kneeling, as if she was an attraction that everyone just had to see. The man that was kneeling before her spoke the first. She recognised his face, it was similar to another man she knew, the Duke of Richmond, a great supporter of the royals. When he looked up, she stretched out her right hand for him to kiss it.

Your Royal Majesty, welcome to your new Palace.

She looked at him, so he was the brother of the Duke, James. He was nice to see, she could even say handsome, like his brother. Her father always praised the Stewart family, so what else could she do than trust this man, she would need all help the following time.

Thank you, Sir Piero. I heard about your brother, I hope that he’ll be better soon.
The travel? What can I say? I don’t like travelling in a coach very much.

She looked around, watched the faces of the others who were present, they all seemed to be waiting for something, although she didn’t know what. She looked at Sir Piero and smiled.

Yes, I’d like you to escort me. I don’t know the way, and the palace looks big, so I’d probably get lost…

She smiled again and waited until he’d offer his arm, to guide her to her apartments.

Piero nodded politely and offered his arm to guide Her Majesty. Indeed, Piero thought, his brother Richmond was very clever in sending him so fast to the Court. If he was in good health, James himself would have come, but now... he needed another person and for this, Piero knew he was being manipulated as his older brother always tried to - and for this Piero couldn't trust him completely.

As the young officer escorted Her Majesty through the Palace, followed by four guards and the Queen's Ladies-in-waiting showing some of the rooms, he could see men and women, nobles and servants whispering about him. "Newly arrived in England... brother of Richmond... interested? ....", he couldn't know what they were saying, only guess. And he felt uncomfortable, as he knew intrigue in the Palace never ended well... and he was not used to this life, he didn't have time before. What in Earth had his brother got him into?

Finally, Your Majesty, here are located the Royal apartments., said the Stewart, stopping in front of a heavy wooden door guarded by two guards who seemed to not move. As they saw the new Queen, they opened the door., Here I may stay, Your Majesty, as it's forbidden for me to advance any further. Only Your Majesty, your closest relatives and your Ladies-in-waiting may enter.

Piero made a elaborated reverence, as such as he learned in Spain, and smiled. If Your Majesty may need something, my sword and my Faith are at Your Majesty's disposal, as all the Stewarts.

While walking trough the halls of the large Palace, Marie-Thérèse looked carefully. She had expected much, but the richness of this Castle was beyond her imagination. Her hand was lying on the arm of Piero, and she couldn’t help notice how muscular it was. She smiled and imagined how it would feel to have these strong arms around her.
She blocked those thoughts, but she’d come back to them later. Eventually, except from the fact that she was Queen now, she was still a young woman. She had never known real love from a man, not the kind of love that was described in books. And what else could a woman desire than love and a strong man who she loved?

Eventually they stopped, apparently they had arrived at her chamber. Two guards opened the door for her, without saying a word. She looked trough the doors and wondered how her apartments would look like. It looked very big, enough to investigate for a couple of hours. She turned around to Piero.

Sir, thank you for escorting me trough the palace, without you I would have been lost probably. I shall not forget this act of kindness.

He bowed an then he spoke again, he talked in a chivalric kind of way, it way very interesting to hear, and romantic too.

If Your Majesty may need something, my sword and my Faith are at Your Majesty's disposal, as all the Stewarts.

She answered at a silent and quite tone, and smiled after she had spoken.

I shall keep that in mind, but let’s hope that I do not need your sword too soon or to often. I’ll now enter my apartments and rest for a while, but maybe after you could take me for little tour in the Palace and the garden?

She didn’t wait for the answer and walked trough the doors, but before she entered, she turned back around.

And before I forget, Sir Piero, I’ve heard that my brother, William Reginald is back in the country. I’d like to speak to him as soon as possible, if that would be possible. Could you take care of that?

Then she walked further into her apartments and decided to rest and maybe get a little sleep. God! She was tired! This journey had taken a lot of her strength. She opened all door until she found her bedroom. Eventually she found it, after having opened three or four doors, and entered. She walked to the bed en climbed in it. After less than five minutes, she was in a deep sleep…

Piero nodded politely. Of course, Your Majesty. And I'll search for your brother now. Please, excuse me., said Piero, who, after the Queen left to her apartments, went to search for the Prince in the Court. As he couldn't find him there, he decided to go to the port and search for information of where he could be and if his ship had already arrived, as Her Majesty was informed.

After some hours of travel, the coach arrives on the Royal Court of England. It was really beautiful, the gardens, the nature, and that all couvered by a small layer of white and pure snow. He opens the small door and jump outside the coach, the snow cracked under his feet, a cold wind blew through his hair... Winter... The pretty lakes of the gardens were couvered by ice, light blue ice which was sprankling in the sunlight, a magnificent scene.

They entered into the Palace, it was very impressive, it wasn't very long to go to the chamber of the Queen, they arrived a few minutes after... The valet knocked on the door.

Enter?!

The Prince put a large smile on his face and walk in the chamber of the Lady. He knelt.

I'm so pleased to see you sister, after so much years!

Marie-Thérèse had awakened one hour before, and now she was looking out the window. The view was spectacular, but she knew that soon she would have to leave her room to do what she had to do: govern the Kingdom. Suddenly her thought were interrupted by a voice that shouted trough the chamber.

Enter!?

She left her position at the window to see who had came in. Normally they didn’t let just anyone in her apartments? Quickly she moved into the first chamber to great the unexpected guest. She was quite wondered when she saw who it was.
Her younger brother was kneeling before her. He had changed, but it was clearly him. He was still young, and sure had inherited the beauty and handsomeness of her father and his mother. They had a different mother, but despite that she had a very good connection with him? It was pity that her father didn’t really like him, at least not as much as he liked her. That’s why her father was not really sad when he left to the scandinavian countries.

My brother, what a pleasure! Don’t kneel to me, you’re my brother!

William-Reginald stands up, kneeling in front of his sister, that was bizarre... But now, she was the Queen, the Queen of the Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland... The most powerfull woman in whole England, the most powerfull women of all the people on these lands... Nevertheless, he was pleased to see that she didn't forget him, and that he didn't need to kneel for her. In fact, she never changed as she was in the past, when they played together, and when they ran through the large fields of Arundel... She was allready even beautiful, thoughtful and sweet.

I'm happy to see that you didn't changed Mar... Your Majesty. I'm content to that I'm here anew, the scandinavian lands were beautiful, but... It's such better here, in my loved England.

Marie-Thérèse smiled to her brother. It has been so long! She was very curious to his stories, she could imagine that he had seen and done much. She walked closer to him and laid her hand on her cheek. She gave him a kiss on his other cheek and looked at him again.

Welcome back. Have you seen the Palace? It's absolutely great isn't it?! So big! Arundel castle is nothing compared with it, actually! I haven't really got the chance to take a good look. I really think that it takes several years to really get to know everything about this castle.
But tell me, how was your journey?
