AA town-crier, unknown in the region, had entered the town. He was looking around him, so you could notice that he had an announcement to make.

It was his mission to let every one know the hospitality and the friendship of the English. He dismounted from his horse, on which a scar in the form of the royal seal was clearly noticeable.

While observing the children and the people, he walked to the town hall. There he climbed on the wooden stage and threw his leather bag on a bank. While taking a piece of fine paper, he took three or four steps.

When he arrived at the stage, he abruptly silenced the crowd. Looking to see if everyone was listening, he cleared his throat and started to recite by heart:

Quote :
Hear ye, Hear ye!

On this day of the year MDCXLIX,
We, His Royal Majesty the King of England, have decided to offer to our subjects the possibility to present themselves at this holy place.

If you wish, with noble intentions, you may present yourself, we remember.

Hoping that all of you will find in your quest the happiness that is waiting for all of us.

Mat God protect you.

When he was finished, the town-crier indicated that the presentation was over. The inhabitants than went back to their daily activities as if nothing had happened: noise, yelling and discussions continued.

The crier, like always after his announcements, climbed quickly back on his horse and left at a gallop.

London, England, 1649.

1649, that was a year to return, no matter how dangerous and unstable England could be. Piero wasn't so much familiarized with London, when after 7 years of self-exile from the English Civil War, he finally returned. However, the time spent in France and Spain was excellent, as he had the opportunity to meet some of the grestest minds of his time, as well as make acquaitances with many different people from diverse social statures and finally see how the life truly was. He wore rich clothes, which caught attention of all those who saw him. A foreigner? Indeed, Piero didn't look like an englishmen, not in those circumstances. But he had the blood of one. His eyes observed the streets he was, and actually Piero was in the poor side of the town. Women ran after pigs which threatened to escape to the busy streets, children played with wood sticks as if they were truly soldiers, beggars asked for money... Piero saw a young woman with two children begging him for some coins, he couldn't understand very much what she said in her desperation, but he could understand her husband had been murdered because of his different religion. And the man was sorry for her, he could not ignore it or her small children and gave her 10 coins, which was enough to get her and her small family food. He had too lost his beloved family and his beloved bride Lady Gabrielle, murdered in the civil war between the cavaliers and the roundheads.

For Piero believed in Heaven, and for every good action he could make in Earth, he would be happier once dead. And he planned to live long enough. Straw covered parts of the streets, small houses made of stone, some as old as the town with the windows opened as to face the newcomer, revealing the sad way the poor lived... and Piero had seen the same in Paris, in Eu and many other places. Suddenly, the situation started to improve and he could see painted houses, some with the barocco archteture style which dominated Portugal, Spain, France and Italy at the time, although not so strong in England. Piero suddenly heard a man making a speech on a wood stage, on the centre of the town. The crowd surrounded it, curious, as only in important ocasions someone would dare to go there...

He listened to the man and he felt hope. May the Lord listen to what that town crier said, on behalf of the King... the people needed hope, for England surely would have a golden future.

PostSubject: Re: Reception of the villagers   Reception of the villagers EmptyMon Jan 05, 2009 7:06 pm

Eleanor is sitting in her carriage clutching a piece of paper. On the paper is a letter from her beloved father. After many months spent in exile in France, he is finally calling her home. She leans back in the carriage and closes her eyes, smiling. Truth be told, while she enjoyed the life and the society in France, she truly missed her family.

As her carriage enters the southern entrance to London, Eleanor opens her eyes and looks out the window. London is teeming with life! There is so much to see. There are a few other carriages wandering the streets, along with lots of men and women at the entrances of stores and houses, preparing for a new day of work. Children are playing in the street, oblivious to the political tension of the past few years.

As her carriage passes through the centre of town, the driver slows down and she can hear a crier shouting out a message. Her face lights up as she listens. There is a new King! She wonders who it is. Well she can add that to the new list of things to ask her father when she meets him.

She leans back again, truly happy for the first time in a long time.

Reception of the villagers Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reception of the villagers   Reception of the villagers EmptyWed Jan 07, 2009 8:58 am

A man, in a long fur coat, arrives on the large place of London. It wasn't very quite, there were many people ; a lot of noise... Chickens there, pigs here, a farmer ran everywhere. He yawned, he travelled a lot, and he was very tired... It was very cold too, winter has come to the english lands, snow has fallen and the roofs of the houses and the ground were couvered by a big layer of snow. He was accomodated to the snow, he came back from the scandinavian countries... In this time of the year, it was freezing cold there, this was nothing comparated with that...

When he arrives at the middle of the place, he heard a Town crier speaks to the population of London:

Hear ye!

After the revolution, a new Queen is appointed! She will reign over this coutry with all her wisdom and goodness! Long live the Queen!

A smile appears on the mouth of the young man, he was happy to hear this message, new days will come to England, good days, the Revolution can be forgotten, and a new chapter could be opened. He walked towards a small group of persons, they seemed noble as him... He makes a large reverence.

Good afternoon,

How do you do? Let introduce myself... William Reginald Howard... Are you content as many as me with this excellent message? England should be filled with hope now, after this cruel revolution!

Reception of the villagers Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reception of the villagers   Reception of the villagers EmptyWed Jan 07, 2009 2:12 pm

Piero returned from the Palace to the main square in a small coach, not much distant to the port, in search for a man who could be surrounded by Royal Guards. That was the impression he had about a Prince, as he saw in Spain and Portugal. Especially outside the Court.

He thought of Eleanor Rose, whose father had been incredible kind in allowing the Stewart to stay on his Manor in Rouen. Probably she would return very soon , if she wasn't already back in London. As soon as possible, Piero decided, he would meet the Cecils and thank them properly.

He stood in the middle of square, looking at the newly arrivals. He should go to the port soon, but enjoyed to see the people, without distinction, talk to them and see what they needed. Some old acquaintances, who recognized him first - and it took a while for Piero to recognize those, came to greet him. Then, a man caught his attention. He heard the message about which he spoke, but he already knew about the Queen... but what caught his attention was his name. William Reginald Howard. Indeed, the Queen instructed him to find that man and bring him to her presence. And judging by his clothes, Piero could see he was not a commoner.

William Reginald Howard? I've come to guide you to your sister, who awaits for you. And I agree, this announcement represents a new future for the Kingdom, a golden one., said him, smiling, avoiding to make know at the place that the Prince was there, for safety purposes. Please, accompany me to her residence.

As Piero said so, he made a small reverence and went towards the coach, waiting for the Prince to enter inside it to go to the Palace.

The Prince looks at the people at the large town square of London, it was really beautiful to see all this men and women in a civil harmony. Ones were selling their wares, other seek the best coat or the best pants of the market... Suddenly, a man came in the direction of the Prince, he looked very important, certainly a man of the Royal Court... His sister was searching him, that was clear, after many, many years. His study in the northern territories of this world, hindered him to see his familly and his sister... Now it was time, she was appointed as the new Queen of England, he has to go to her now.

A little revenece to the man in front of him, a minimum of respect.

Good sir, I'll follow you!

They walked towards the Royal coach, a knave opens the small door and they entered... The horses came in movement, now he'll see his sister again!

PostSubject: Re: Reception of the villagers   Reception of the villagers EmptyFri Jan 09, 2009 7:22 am

Henry Ashdown Grey slipped from his horse and marveled at how busy London always seemed…even during the dark days of revolt and revolution when London was a dangerous place for a loyalist to be, it had been the heart of the nation.

Henry glanced around, his wife was due at any moment…he had been in London for a few days arranging a home for them before sending for Rhiannon from their home in Kent. He missed her dearly, they had rarely spent time apart since marrying and each day that was spent without holding her in his arms was a day he felt only half himself.

He sighed, his father the Earl of Kent had been slain at the Battle of Maidstone only a year ago, it had seemed the republicans would prevail…and yet…a new Queen had been crowned and the Capital looked like it was recovering well.

Henry smiled, perhaps order and prosperity would now be returned he thought and waited patiently for Rhiannon to arrive…

PostSubject: Re: Reception of the villagers   Reception of the villagers EmptyFri Jan 09, 2009 10:06 am

Rhiannon Eirwen Grey, a petite dark-haired woman, looked out the window of the carriage into the streets of London. Her blue eyes were wide as she took it all in, this was a very different place from their home in Kent. Already she ached to return there, but... London was the place to be, especially for what Henry desired. So Rhi had packed up their belongings and gone to London where her husband had prepared a home for them.

She had never been one for society, but she had been well-trained in the art of being a lady in her father's court in Wales. Rhi wondered what the people here would be like... and if they would accept the Greys. She knew she and Henry and their obvious love for one another was not a common occurrence among nobility, where marriage for dowry, power, and titles was the norm. But Rhiannon had an older brother who would inherit everything, so her father had only railed slightly against her marrying the Englishman who had stolen her heart.

As they pulled to a stop, she saw Henry and instantly her lips formed a soft smile. The door opened and the footman helped her step carefully onto the street before her waiting husband. Rhi flinched at how noisy London was, the accents of those around them distinct from those at Kent which she had grown somewhat accustomed to, even if she did at times long for the sound of Cymraeg.

Smiling up at Henry, she gave him a curtsy with an amused twinkle in her eyes and the smile still on her face.
"M'lord..." she said with a gentle nod, before laughing and launching herself into his arms for a hug.

"Oh Henry... I've missed you terribly."

He recognized the carriage as it pulled towards him, he desperately tried to hold his face impassive…loathe to show emotion in public…even if the fact that he knew who was in the carriage was making his heart beat hard.

He smiled as she stepped down, her blue eyes turning this way and that till they found his and she curtsied. Henry almost snorted at that, knowing how informal they were with each other, but felt a curious pleasure in it all the same.

As she reached for him he wrapped his strong arms around her and dipped his head to hers, his lips close to hers as he spoke. “Rhi…Oh God…how I’ve missed you my darling wife!”
He squeezed her tightly before breaking away just enough to kiss her softly…smiling as he looked into her eyes. “Welcome to London my love…”

"Thank you darling.. let us save our affections for private.. I am loathe to make a poor impression on these Londoners by acting inappropriately."

Rhi reluctantly pulled her lips from her husband. She knew that to reach their goal, to have Henry's family titles and honor restored, that they would have to be on their best behavior. Only then, only when they had accomplished that, would they be able to return to Kent.

Now that there was a new Queen, the danger of Cromwell past, the loyalists (the Greys included) could now return to London and court... a new hope for the quest that had haunted Henry since his father's death. Shaking her head of such thoughts for now, she smiled softly again at her husband.

Taking his arm, she let him lead her inside to their new home.. wondering what new experiences awaited them in London.

At first Oduan saw nothing of London but the smoke raising from the chemeneys into the clear winter sky. The wind had been blowing quite hard the last night and sleeping in the roadside was surely an experience Oduan did not want to repeat. So when the first daylights revelaed those trails of smoke going up in the sky Oduan knew, for a first time in a long long time, where he had to go.

London.

The name evocated a new and fresh start, new adventures and new opportunities.

She was arrived finally in London, far away from the domestic property in Hampshire. She lived from now on at her uncle's who made her education.
So many bell towers more the surrounding wall of church, palaces, the Royal Town was so alive. Traders, travelers, pilgrims as artisans, trading and farmers came sell their products on the markets of the city.

The young girl, in the middle of tumult let on the face appear a small smile in front of the full of life scene.

She knew how to speak French and already had good customs. Her uncle was doubtless going to ask her be baptized. After the fall of the Roman Catholic Church and the rise of Pascal, every good believer of England owed keep he faith towards God.

(please notice that im not the Mc Pherson's one)

William Molyneux hardly found a cottage in middlesex countryside but at least one held his preference, not so far from London and the parish chuch and not too near, so he could praise and worship the Holy Pascal Lamb quietly.

A tall black man arrived.
He used to be a simple warrior in his tribe of the Kingdom of Segou. During a battle against an ennemy tribe he was captured and sold to the french who were starting to trade slaves at that time.
He worked hard in Guadeloupe untill one day, a group of English privateers came in. During the fast fight, he helped a british captain, Thomas Williams (son of Roger Williams) and escaped with him.

Once back in wales, Sir Williams taught him english, some bases of reading and eventually freed him.

And here he is. He has come to London to discover more about Britain and improve his knowledge of the english language and culture.

All is so new here... where should I go first... He thought

Greetings, Warrior. I am Rifilias, the Councillor of Reception for our Lady Emaleigh, mayor of London. Welcome to our town.

If you are need of guidance, I shall show you the Market, where you may find provisions to keep you healthy. Of course, things are not free, so you may want to stop by the Town Hall and become a guard in order to earn money. You seem well suited for that job.

I hope that helps you get started.

Thank you for your advice.

Well, now I'll walk a little through London, I may meet some citizens. If you are not busy at the moment, I'd enjoy your company. I'm going that way

So, this is London. And I was supposed not to get out of my tiny village in all my life! Man, enlisting in the navy helped. I've seen a whole lot!

Than the young man thought about home. And stopped persuading himself that everyting was going fine.

Oh, this doesn't help! Everything was fine when I was actually in the navy! But my ship sank and I am all alone in an unknown land! Good that I learned English before coming here for that trade mission

Not atm I am afraid....other then Practice and Skill points that can be gotten by working the fields, forest or as a town Guard. I am trying my best to find a wine maker that sells at a reasonable rate so we can feed the citizens their meals. Anyone out there studying please choose wine making...the town has plenty of grapes to sell to those that will post at reasonable rates.

Joshua decides its time to venture a little more and get to know the people of London. He has heard so much about. He had hopes to one day find some of his family but that would have to wait as he had to get settled down before he was able to start accomplishing that part. Just arrived into London the 15th of April he found London to be not as he imagined but decided to walk around and see if he met anyone.

When he get's across a little park, he sees a building whith a sign "reception" on it, but i looks rather closed.
He decides to stay in the park, and enjoy the lovely sping wether. So he sits down on the grass and looks to te clouds in the sky.
